Atma is the embodiment of bliss, peace and love, but, without knowing that all these exist in oneself, man seeks them from outside and exhausts himself in that disappointing pursuit. Birds that fly far from the mast of a ship on high seas have to return to that very mast, for they have no other place to fold their tired wings and rest. Devoid of this Jnana (spiritual wisdom), all efforts to seek spiritual bliss and peace will be futile.
